This year's event was made hard going by the light winds, but overall it was a good regatta and Saturn Sails faired well. On Saturday the fleet was split, with classes 1,2 and 3 sailing to the north of the Great Cumbrae and classes 4, 5 and 6 in the Fairlie Channel. Classes 5 and 6 managed to get two races, but the other fleets struggled to get one.

In Class 1, Duncan Grant's Titan 36 "Animula" showed good all round speed to win the class and in Class 2, David Clark's "Eauvation 4" also won comfortably. Sailing in Class 4, John Kent's "Farr-E-Nuff" finished second and Gordon Aikman's new Maxi 1100 "Scanne" (see below) won Class 6 with good consistant sailing over the two races.

Gordon Aikman's Maxi 1100, Scanne.

On Sunday we had great sunshine but still light winds from the south west quarter. Unfortunately the wind died, leaving a "parking lot" at the Tan and most fleets restarted from there, with the wind filling in again from the south.

Iain Thomson sailing the Swan 40 "Sloop John T" won Class 1, with "Animula" 2nd. and John Connelly's new Sunfast 40 "Aztec" 3rd. Howard Morrison sailing "Enigma" finished 2nd. in Class 2 and in Class 4 "Farr-E-Nuff" score another 2nd.

2nd. "Cool Bandit" Sadler 32 (Craig Anderson)
3rd. "Nimbus" Albin Cumulus (Keith Mackie).

The 100 Guineas was sailed during the week following the Cumbraes Weekend and in Class 1, 1st. overall was David Clark's First 33.7 "Eauvation 4" . In Class 2, 1st. overall was "Farr-E-Nuff" with 3 wins.

THE 2 HANDED RACE

Class 2.

1st. "Eauvation" First 33.7 (David Clark)
3rd. "Significant" Sigma 36 (Ron Wilson).

Class 3.

1st. "Farr-E-Nuff" Farr 727 (John Kent)
2nd. "Lindisfarne" Moody 33 (Jackie Pearson)
3rd. "Nimbus" Albin Cumulus (Keith Mackie)
4th. "Cool Bandit" Sadler 32 (Craig Anderson).

The 2 Handed Race was started in a north-easterly breeze and most yachts were well clear of the Garroch Head before the holes started to appear in the wind. David Clark's "Eauvation 4" was first home and won Class 2 with a good set of results. In Class 3 "Farr-E-Nuff" had another convincing win with Jacky Pearson sailing well in difficult conditions for his Moody 33 to finish 2nd. Keith Mackie finished 3rd. in the Albin Cumulus "Nimbus".
