SATURN SPRAYHOODS

"SPRAYHOODS SHOULD BE DESIGNED TO ENHANCE THE STYLE OF YOUR YACHT AS WELL AS TO GIVE GOOD PROTECTION"

- easily said, but more difficult to put into practice!!

The following points should be considered:

*Regular heights over the cockpit sole - 5' 0" to 5' 6".

*Will the boom hit the frame top and if so which is most important, the sprayhood height or the mainsail? (At this stage either can easily be altered).

*The front panel of the sprayhood is critical to the style of the hood and should be well raked and a large proportion of this area fitted with windows for good visability.

*Tracks around the front perimeter are very smooth in comparison to 'lift-the-dots' which may catch oilskins.

*Wings are very important as they support the hood to give a good fit and are held firmly aft by heavy webbings and buckles.

*Good protection should be given to the hatch area by the aft bar being aft of the hatch by approximately 8".

*The aft bar area is protected from chafe or regular fingermarks by a heavyweight PVC.

*If possible clearance should be made for winch handles, but on many yachts a full turn of the handle is not possible.

*Our sprayhood is quick and easy to remove without tools, firstly by releasing the wings then by unzipping the aft bar and finally sliding out of the front track (in under 5 minutes).

*Most sprayhoods are made in PU-coated acrylic, similar to canvas, which is colourfast and 85% weatherproof, but for 100% waterproof sprayhoods PVC should be selected.

Please Note

All sprayhoods are designed and produced after discussion with owners to suit their requirements. Unfortunately though they can only be made for yachts in the Clyde area.
